In Memory of Collin Rose
USCA Member and Metro-Detroit SchH Club member Collin Rose, a Wayne State University Police Officer and K9 handler, was shot in the line of duty and succumbed to injury on Wed Nov 23, 2016. Collin was a talented and dedicated K9 handler and handled one of the only dual-purpose Rottweilers in the country K9 Clyde. Collin and K9 Clyde were highly sought after by other local departments as one of the most successful detection teams in Detroit with numerous finds and apprehensions to their credit. Collin also recently was given an additional opportunity to handle a “vapor wake” explosives detection K9 named Wolverine a German Shorthaired Pointer.
Collin began his career in law enforcement and quickly knew he wanted to be involved with K9. He arrived at the Metro-Detroit SchH Club (MDSC) to learn as much as he could and quickly returned with a GSD named Epsilon. Collin arrived at MDSC with a ton of energy and quickly applied anything he learned. He took that experience and the fact that he quickly became a certified Trial Helper to land the K9 position he wanted. After landing the K9 position Collin remained a dedicated member of MDSC with goals of titling his new dog K9 Clyde. In Spring 2016 Collin successfully passed the BH with Clyde. Collin took quickly to trial helper work as well and has been a dedicated Training/Trial Helper for the club. Collin aspired to work bigger trials too and tried out for the 2015 Mideast Regional Championship and planned to tryout at the upcoming 2017 Southeast Regional Championship.
Collin was a student (nearly earning his Master’s Degree from Wayne State Univ) and recently became engaged to wed his college sweetheart Nikki. Collin was an exceptional person to be around and a dedicated member of the Metro-Detroit SchH Club. He had a positive impact on all he came into contact with and is a credit to himself, his family, his Department, and his Club.
USCA and the Metro-Detroit SchH Club were lucky to have known Collin Rose and he will forever be missed.
