EB Ballot #11-18 – Waiver for Ally Smith to have a flight that does not show on Friday for the 2018 WDC
Motion by Michele Clubb, Secretary, and seconded by Nathaniel Roque, DOJ, to grant a waiver for Ally Smith to have a flight for the 2018 WDC that does not show on Friday.
Background:
Ally is completing her first year of medical school and must attend a mandatory lab at her university on Friday May 11th, which prevents her from arriving at the WDC until late Friday evening. She is entered in the WDC, but would not be able to show her dog on Friday if she was to receive a flight with a Friday schedule.
Ally had arranged for another handler to show her dog; however, she would prefer to show her own dog, and is requesting a waiver that would allow her a flight that shows on Saturday and Sunday and not on Friday.
Statement from Ally:
I am currently finishing up my first year of medical school at the University of Tennessee, and on Friday I have a mandatory lab that prevents me from arriving to the competition until late Friday evening. This lab is one of only two mandatory events that we must attend to receive a passing grade in the module. I have strictly supported USCA trials at all levels- including 5 USCA regionals as well as the last 3 working dog championships. My dog is now 6 years old on borrowed competition time, and every year forward, I expect my educational demands will only further increase. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to show my dog at this event- likely for the last time at a national level.
