EB #21-23
EB Ballot #21-23 – Waive the regional requirement for USCA member Claudia Howard and dog Django von der Pflochsbacher Schmiede for the 2023 USCA Nationals.
Motion by Cherie Flores, NW RD, and seconded by Nathaniel Roque to waive the regional requirement for USCA member Claudia Howard and dog Django von der Pflochsbacher Schmiede for the 2023 USCA Nationals.
Background: Claudia Howard was training hard and entered the 2023 Northwestern regionals. She entered and attended practice days. During her Tuesday, Sept 5 training regime, she suddenly felt her hip “pop”. Her working partner heard it and immediately suggested she go to the Doctor’s office. Her doctor immediately scheduled surgery to repair the damage to the hip socket (for background, she had previously had a hip replacement several years prior). She underwent surgery on Wednesday. She indicated to me that it was the best possible outcome (the doctor was unsure, based on X-ray, how extensive the damage was). This means she is definitely off (no dog, leash walks, anything) for two weeks. She then will have to build back with the new replacement parts. It is unknown if she can walk the centerline at nationals, but that is her goal.
However, she cannot compete at northwestern regionals. She cannot hit another regional event before nationals and is asking to waive that requirement.
