John
will be well remembered by the many sport friends he influenced during
his 27 years with USA as being a kind and caring individual. As our
Judge John was at the top of his class and was respected worldwide by
his colleagues, he honored us by being selected to judge the worlds
first in 1993 in Austria and again this year in Italy. While John
loved to officiate at clubs and bring a sense of honor by his judging,
and compassion to teach by his critiques he also quietly and
passionately was involved in the background speaking out for those
ideals that bind us together as an organization. John says it best in
his last statement during a recent interview: “I guess the only
thing I can give our membership as a statement is that schutzhund is a
sport, it's our sport. I think sometimes we lose sight of that fact.
It is something that you as a handler, your dog, myself and the other
judges should be able to enjoy. Something that is not a job,
shouldn't be, it should be our hobby, and should be the way that we
spend time doing something constructive with our dogs, and something
that both really enjoy.”
John was a good friend and my teacher, I will
never forget those principles he openly shared and his calm resolve
when asked for advice. His presence will be missed but what he stood
for will never be forgotten.

Bill Fields
January 8, 2002
Bill was a great member of our
organization and a role model for those that
were fortunate enough to have known him. His warm and outgoing
personality led him into the hearts of countless USA members and
allowed him to teach thousands of people about our sport and the
German Shepherd Dog. As the Senior USA Judge Bill officiated at more
trials each year than any other USA Judge and never refused to help a
club in need of a judge.
Bill Fields will always be
remembered as one of the few and finest ambassadors our organization
has ever known. -
